Allergens in our brochure.

At Ofishial Foods we are not here to diagnose your digestives problems, but what we can do is provide you with some frozen ready meals for home delivery that cater to a variety of nutritional needs. When people ask about allergens in our cooked meals it is most commonly dairy free or gluten free options,but we also have allium free (onion family) options.

We cater for food allergies and intolerance’s  and other dietary requirements with our great tasting ready meals delivered to your door. In the brochure each meal has clear labeling for any allergens and which of our cooked meals are allergen free. One such example is the Steak Casserole that is gluten free and dairy free. Whereas the Vegetarian Chilli contains all the allergens.

There are 14 main allergens that have to be declared on food packaging in the United Kingdom. In our kitchen we only use a few of them, and these have to be printed in bold type on the ingredients label. In fact to reduce the risk of cross contamination we have no peanuts on site. As these can often produce a severe reaction for those that are allergic.

Difference between an allergen and an intolerance.

Many people get the two muddled up. A gluten intolerance does not involve the immune system, and it often manifests  soon after eating barley, wheat or rye. It may present symptoms such as stomach ache, bloating or a rash.

An allergic reaction is an exaggerated immune system response to certain foods. In some cases it may cause potentially life threatening symptoms such as anaphylaxis, either by breathing difficulties / or sudden drop in blood pressure. In coeliacs disease, the immune system mistakes substance found inside gluten as a threat to the body and attacks them. This in turn damages the surface of the small intestines, disrupting the body’s ability to absorb the nutrients from food. Symptoms for Coelics Disease are often similar to those of a Gluten Intolerance.

Like the brochure the website is easy to navigate with the different main ingredient sections, but we have additional options for those looking for the allergen free meals.  All of our Sweet and Sour dishes are both dairy and gluten free. If you are looking for an allium free meal how about the best selling Salmon in Lemon Sauce or Beef Lasagne (made with Mushroom Ketchup supplied by Geo Watkins)

Gluten free for those with a sweet tooth.

New in the brochure this year are two gluten free desserts. Lemon Drizzle Cake – sold as a twin pack – this doesn’t even contain gluten free flour; its special ingredient is mashed potato! This cake is surprisingly light and still has all the tanginess of a traditional Lemon Drizzle.

The second dessert introduced this year is our Apricot and Almond Cake with custard, based on an apricot tray bake recipe made by Susie (our sales representative). It is possibly a little bit higher in sugar than some people would like – but that just means your other meals of the day should have a lower sugar content.
